Grilled Cheese Grill Portland, Oregon

While on a trip to Portland on Thanks Giving weekend we were looking for some interesting places to have a really good Gluten Free meal!

On the trip before this one my husband had taken my son to the Grilled Cheese Grill while I was working so I didn't have a chance to try it out with them. I was a bit skeptical about "Grilled Cheese" and Gluten free because a lot of gluten free breads just don't taste right as a grilled cheese sandwich. Some don't Toast up right and some just get mushy but that is not so with the bread they use at the Grilled Cheese Grill.

They use Bob's Red Mill gluten free bread when you request gluten free. It is a minimal charge to add the gluten free bread but it is well worth it!

The Grilled Cheese Grill has a great assortment of sandwiches that you can choose from including the one I posted in the picture here! The "Cheesus Burger" is any grilled cheese and burger lovers dream!

Here is what it says about it on their menu
The Now-Famous Burger Behemoth. We’ve done away with the bun and replaced it with two grilled cheese sandwiches. That’s right, two of them. One on top, another on the bottom. Pickles and American Cheese in one, Grilled Onions and Colby Jack in the other. Lettuce, Tomato, Ketchup, Mustard and 1/3lb Burger in between. You won’t need to eat again for 2 days. Comes with a bag of chips and napkins.
I suggest a Fork and Knife for this sandwich! It is definitely a shareable meal! I shared this with my son and my husband got his own "Thriller"!

Here is what they say about the "Thriller" on their menu

Secret Aardvark Jerk Sauce Marinated Turkey, Colby Jack, Fresh Red Onion and Tomato on Sourdough

He has actually been there three times now and has loved everything he has tried. He says "It is a fun atmosphere with the double decker bus and good food."

There is only street parking available so you might have to look for a spot to park but it is well worth it! On nice days you can eat outside in the picnic area or when it's cold out cozy up in the double decker bus! What fun!

New Cascadia Traditional Bakery Review!

New Cascadia Traditional Bakery located in Portland Oregon is a dedicated gluten free bakery. My husband and I loved their sandwiches which they made with their wonderful Honey Gold Bread! It is really a great texture and taste for a gluten free bread!

Unfortunately the last time we were down in Portland about a month ago we found out that New Cascadia stopped selling their wonderful sandwiches. They did offer to send us to other places that use their breads in sandwiches but none of the places were dedicated gluten free so cross contamination could have been possible so we opted to have one of their Margherita pizzas which is lovely!

Asher (our 22 month old at the time) loved their pizza! What he loved even more was the cupcakes we bought along with the pizza! Asher and I shared an orange cupcake. It was nice. Their cupcakes are some of the best gluten free cupcakes second only to the chocolate peanut butter cupcakes made by Flying Apron bakery in the Fremont District of Seattle.

Since we went their really craving a sandwich we decided to buy a loaf of Honey Gold bread for later. It was wonderful!!! New Cascadia is by far my favorite bread! I just wish it was available closer to where we live! I may have to get some to put in the freezer next time we go down to Portland.

Another one of my favorites at New Cascadia is the peanut butter cookies. Most of the other cookies I don't care for as much, but the peanut butter ones are excellent! My son and husband like the Vegan Chocolate chip cookies!

So if you get a chance to go to Portland or live in that area be sure to stop by New Cascadia, have one of their wonderful pizza's, and take home some great baked goods! You won't be disappointed!

PS: I forgot to take a picture this time but I will make sure and do that next time!

Who I am

Hi, my name is Kristin Campbell, I am a mom, outreach minister, jewelry designer & Daisy Blue Naturals Independent Consultant who is dedicated to living and enjoying a healthy gluten free life style. I have been living gluten free since 2007! I found out that I was not able to have glutens during a very difficult medical time in which I was greatly misdiagnosed. I will have to share that story here sometime soon! The Pacific Northwest has some of the best choices for Gluten Free Restaurants, Bakeries, Groceries, Stores, Skin Care and Household items in the nation! My husband and I have traveled over most of the United States and are always glad to be back home with our great gluten free options!

Gluten free availability has sure changed in the last few years! I am excited when ever I learn of a new product, restaurant or store that offers gluten free items or that is dedicated gluten free. I was so excited when I found out that Daisy Blue naturals has become a dedicated gluten free product line. I was a consultant in 2007/2008 and had to stop because of a high risk pregnancy. At that time they were not gluten free so I had to pick and choose the products I used... but now they are completely Gluten Free so I have decided to join back up to share these wonderful products with others.

I love to share what I have learned about gluten free products and places so this blog will explore some of my favorite things and places! The more hidden treasures I find the more I will share them! I hope you enjoy my blog and my journey in living Gluten Free!
